Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire
Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, which had many British residents in
the late 19th century, is situated in the Touraine region
of France, on the opposite bank of the river Loire from
Tours, and has a poulation of about 17000. It has a fine
Town Hall set in attractive grounds and excellent leisure
facilities. Tours has a beautifully renovated old quarter,
the Place Plumereau, a chateau and several museums. Other
historic Loire valley towns and chateaux that can be
visited from Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire include Azay-le-Rideau,
Chenonceaux, Amboise and Blois and the whole area is, of
course, famous for its fine wines such as Saumur, Muscadet,
Vouvray and Chinon.
